The farmer sat at his table and cried for his invisible wife
But no one knew he was married
No one knew of this gentle life
They thought he was a single man
He shouted about how his relationship ended
He loved to frolic with his chums
And the freedom he defended
His family had no idea
They thought he was alone
He went into the other room
When he answered the phone
His wife at first she didn’t mind
Until they had their baby
And she realised no one knew of them
As he flirted with ladies daily
Suddenly she started to fade
Her skin became translucent
Her voice muted to a whisper
Her soul became distant
Until one day she disappeared
Left the farmer and their baby
Never to return again
This secret invisible lady

One one we pulled apart by habit
The one we maimed mute
The one we pushed in soot
The one that saw my colours true
While I’m so busy manipulating you
Come let’s do a ceremony
Come cut these ties
Around my neck
Let’s burn the skies
While the rabbit in her hole
Let’s have a day
Wandering the town
And begin to play
Pretend all is ok
The world doesn’t exist
I am the queen of all of this
I’ll act innocent
Though I broke female code
Stabbing a sister
When she clearly said no
Pushing my needs
Because they’re more important
“I’ve had hard times
Come comfort me Seagoat“
“Is she ok? Oh I understand
Go go go
Go be her man“
I’ve put my stamp
She knows your loyalty
Let’s give her more trauma
To hold eternally.
