She gazed across the water,
Up towards the moon
Her heart full
Her face wet
The bottle empty
Her lips red
She pined for her Venn diagram
In her hands were strings
They played a tune
And sung she did beside them
A gentle loving song of hope
The song glided along the water and up towards the sky
Over the clouds and mountains
The birds stopped for a second to let the song pass
And chirped a little nod for its way
Up to the eclipse
Where her song did another meet
His song so sweet
And the sun and the moon danced
Gently, slow and steady
To not rock the world
Shake it off balance
But to soothe everyone
Their fears, their hate
The universal lullaby
Did their song make
Her song continued back on its journey
Over to the warmer water
Where it stopped at the cockpit
And swirled round his head
Her beautiful love
Fast asleep in bed
His song also continued onward north
To the colder place but cosy
It slipped down the mushroom vent
Where she was sleeping
And wrapped itself around her
Where it synced with her breathing.

I feel a little torn
It’s making me forlorn
Keeping my words away from you
In fear I’ve overdrawn
We need our balance and space
That’s something I can’t deny
But I’m struggling with the ratio
When I want you by my side
Maybe I need to spread my wings
Sit in someone’s nest
Give each other the distance we crave
Rest my beak on another chest
But I don’t want to nest hop right now
I am finding it hard to force it
My heart longs for the swallow at sea
And I refuse to cage his movement
50 days is killing me
The countdown even worse
I’m not sure how sustainable
Love is on an empty purse
We have huge priorities
Big dreams to fly the world
Yet here I am pining
Wishing in his wings I was curled
There needs to be a solution
Or this bird will simply perish
Or maybe I’m just too impatient
And this need I must nourish
Maybe I’m just impatient
Bored of counting days
It’s not enough to imagine you
In want you in my face
Bleugh! Distraction! Focus!
Focus feathers focus!
Keep my eyes on my own ball
Remember my own path
Don’t let love throw me off
Else I’ll feel heavens wrath -
The weekend wasn’t enough
When her share was halved
She longed to stop time for a moment
Gaze at his face
Feel his warm embrace
The lump in her throat as he left
Scared by her feelings, she pushed him
Put on her mask and told a good tale
Stories she wrote
But honest she was not
For the story that hurt her was this one
Waiting on the sea she’ll find him
Once she finished her ship
But weak and unsure if she’ll make it
And perhaps another love he will meet
Unfinished and hidden went the story
Afraid she’d scare him away
Masked she slunk into the shadows
Feeling safe, the little sparrow was brave
Alas, she promised to be true
And love hard she does do
Bare all! Surrender to the universe
Whatever will be, will be
If her husband is meant to be waiting
Then waiting she will find he
If not, then just enjoy what is
Let go of what you cannot grasp
Allow the waters to settle
Hold her own heart in a clasp
Unable to stop her falling
She falls all the time
Clumsy she is with her feelings
But meh, it makes for good rhymes -
The painter sat watching the world go by
He watched the people and gazed at the sky
So relaxed he observed the busy little street
The children running with their little feet
The dogs pooing in the middle of the road
Embarrassed owners red faced and shroud
He sat and sat for days on end
He never painted
Not a penny did he spend
He brought his own coffee
And perched on the bench
Next to the cafe of a horrible wench
She threw her cigarettes into the street
Which were swept up by the dragging feet
The weather would change
But his routine would not
In the blistering storm
In an anarak he’d stop
Wipe the seat down and take a pew
Observe in slow motion, kind yet subdewed -
He closes his eyes, and there is darkness
The world stops and he can breathe once again,
He turns within and reaches out
To the hand that holds him
So gently yet firm guides his swim
He trusts her, so waves his limbs
Looking back she’s getting further away
Her smile, his security
The confidence he has to win
He let go, now he’s free
His mother watches him leave
Abandoned by design
She wipes a tear on to her sleeve
The smile still prevalent
Her heart in a race
Her offspring fully fledged
She can no longer see his face
Alone with the feathers
A simple memory for one
Her love undeniable
Nests indentation of an empty son
Long she forgot who she was
A mother seems all she knows
Her independence simply subjective
To the outside that come and goes
Passing like the daily sun
Clockwork they cast their shadow
Throwing in their pennies
Judging the falling sparrow -
Cross the road! Don’t cross the road!
Cross the road! Wait!
Eagle eyed pennies rolling toward the drain plate.
Get your coat! Give me your coat!
Get your coat! Leave!
The dance of the peacocks leave nothing up their sleeve.
Save yourself! Save me!
Save yourself! Go!
Military knocking down the doors of resisting free folk!
Go fuck yourself! Fuck me!
Fuck yourself! Die!
Nothing left to lose staring into the soldiers eyes.
How does it end? I don’t know!
How does it end? Cry!
Live your truth, burn it bright
Arms out to the sky. -
The swallow came and rest upon the gravestone
It closed its eyes and felt the captain there
An old friend looking out over the landscape
Smoking his pipe and perfuming the air
It missed the warmth it felt seeing the ship at sea
It wondered if the captain would ever sail again
Or would he be a swallow too or even a shark
An eternity on land, a hell it could not construe
Why did they put you in the ground?
Surely you were better suited at sea?
How did they not know your wishes?
Your daughter cries aimlessly
For hours she sits beside you and waffles
On about abandonment and grief
Her mother never loved and what happened
Was a child growing up with no relief
She never understood why you left them
Her mother never told her the truth
So in death she doth grab you and hold you close
Making up for the time absent in her life
She tells tales of watching the waves roar
Sunsets while flights of swallows dance
Meandering the rocks and the cliff edge
Hoping to see a fair captain in the distance
I watched her grow on the pebbles
Feeling her way across the shore
Launching her message in a bottle
And now kneeling beside you on the floor
The swallow fluttered above the gravestone
Bid adieu to his land bound friend
Until next time Captain he signaled
And back to the sea it flew
