What a gift you are
The crumbs you leave along the way
Allowing me to find myself
I see more each day
Holding a pace
For further exploration
Allowing me the space
For my own instigation
How joyous I am
To be awake enough to see this
Appreciating the stillness
The gratitude, the willingness
What a journey to be on
When the passage is wide open
Like dogs having fun
Or hearts on an ocean

Why hold me just to release me
Just as I’m about to learn to swim
Allowing me to drown for a moment
In hope that I will win
This battle we created for survival
But makes no sense at heart
The children left drowning
Emotionally torn apart
And all our lives we seek to find
The one who helps us swim
Seeking guidance from untouchables
Instead of searching within
Until we find our own strength
A fire bright inside
Breathing deep and standing firm
Holding that child who cried -
Looking into each other’s eyes they arrive
At the station where most journeys begin
Little does he know this is her final stop
Her wings crisp as she sheds her skin
A big breath and out stretch her wings
Magnificently filling the sky
Eclipsing the moon as she howls into the night
She curls back in his arms and closes her eyes
Slowly her heart beats, fingertips caressing his face
Capturing this moment as she breathes in their last embrace -
Gazing at the ripples their minds start to ponder
Tracing the current their fingers begin to wander
Towards each other from a few centimetres away
The first touch electric for a moment they stay
Feeling the wave flow up their arms
Roll up their neck and back down to their palms
Fingertips interlocking bringing it in
Breathing getting deeper the tides coming in
Knuckles side by side they look to the sky
Not dare to turn look the other in the eye
Clasping getting closer hands off the floor
Palms now touching fingers wrapped even more
Somehow a tightness has begun to be formed
These hands are solid they can withstand a storm
They sit for a while quiet and still
Emotion overflowing the silence at will
The bellowing hurricane feelings invoke
Soothed by the water medicated by the folk
At last a head turns to see
But the hand is swiftly retrieved
Both turn back to the water
In their own space, no further
As they watch the ripples glide the surface -
The weekend wasn’t enough
When her share was halved
She longed to stop time for a moment
Gaze at his face
Feel his warm embrace
The lump in her throat as he left
Scared by her feelings, she pushed him
Put on her mask and told a good tale
Stories she wrote
But honest she was not
For the story that hurt her was this one
Waiting on the sea she’ll find him
Once she finished her ship
But weak and unsure if she’ll make it
And perhaps another love he will meet
Unfinished and hidden went the story
Afraid she’d scare him away
Masked she slunk into the shadows
Feeling safe, the little sparrow was brave
Alas, she promised to be true
And love hard she does do
Bare all! Surrender to the universe
Whatever will be, will be
If her husband is meant to be waiting
Then waiting she will find he
If not, then just enjoy what is
Let go of what you cannot grasp
Allow the waters to settle
Hold her own heart in a clasp
Unable to stop her falling
She falls all the time
Clumsy she is with her feelings
But meh, it makes for good rhymes -
He waved her goodbye at the station
A lump embedded in his throat
Not knowing when he’ll next see her
Assigned a mission for which he must devote
Will he return? He hopes so
But honestly he didn’t know
His love he waves goodbye at the station
Off to the war, an enemy to overthrow -
Don’t be an actor
But it’s what he became
To hide the melancholy
That leaked from his heart
His muse was that
And remember it he must
Sadness must leak
To the steel page and rust
Forever erode
Eternally create
The darkness that follows
The joy he recreates
Change the scene
Swap the players
The writer must fall
Into the madness
Stay in the moment
Feel it well
Breathe it in
Let the heart swell
Over and over
Never still
Like the tide on the shore
Or a shallow English well
Breathe it in
Let it go
The creators journey
He must let it flow -
The light dazzles and blinds her eyes
She squirms yet still edges forward
Her melancholy breath slow but stable
Burying deep her desperate cries
Yet no one sees her floundering state
The mask is well rehearsed
Her charisma a bellowing force
The audience far too late -
He closes his eyes, and there is darkness
The world stops and he can breathe once again,
He turns within and reaches out
To the hand that holds him
So gently yet firm guides his swim
He trusts her, so waves his limbs
Looking back she’s getting further away
Her smile, his security
The confidence he has to win
He let go, now he’s free
His mother watches him leave
Abandoned by design
She wipes a tear on to her sleeve
The smile still prevalent
Her heart in a race
Her offspring fully fledged
She can no longer see his face
Alone with the feathers
A simple memory for one
Her love undeniable
Nests indentation of an empty son
Long she forgot who she was
A mother seems all she knows
Her independence simply subjective
To the outside that come and goes
Passing like the daily sun
Clockwork they cast their shadow
Throwing in their pennies
Judging the falling sparrow
