He closes his eyes, and there is darkness
The world stops and he can breathe once again,
He turns within and reaches out
To the hand that holds him
So gently yet firm guides his swim
He trusts her, so waves his limbs
Looking back she’s getting further away
Her smile, his security
The confidence he has to win
He let go, now he’s free
His mother watches him leave
Abandoned by design
She wipes a tear on to her sleeve
The smile still prevalent
Her heart in a race
Her offspring fully fledged
She can no longer see his face
Alone with the feathers
A simple memory for one
Her love undeniable
Nests indentation of an empty son
Long she forgot who she was
A mother seems all she knows
Her independence simply subjective
To the outside that come and goes
Passing like the daily sun
Clockwork they cast their shadow
Throwing in their pennies
Judging the falling sparrow

The river runs silent
It flows
Past mountains
Through valleys
It knows
The route by heart
The pain does smart
The silence that’s crippled her toes
Boulders start to form in her pathway
Trees splinter
Water does slow
Little does she know
The unsaid needs to be spoken -
The busy little bee
So busy near her hive
Spending her time
Ducking and diving
Searching for pollen
Seeking the flowers
Suckling the nectar
To give her magic powers -
Why am I here God?
Why am I here?
What is my purpose?
I’m drifting God
I no longer feel
the earth between my toes
Something is calling
Is it a mirror
Or is it You?
Time is trickling
As I fumble, I try
to force the story through
Will You come for me
Or do I need to seek You?
Are You already here?
If I stop I can feel
You’re presence is like air
Everywhere I am
I just need to stop
Listen & feel
I feel you
Why am I here?
Still unsure
Why I am here?
I guess I will fumble
Until I find the ground again
Maybe then I can answer the call -
Stillness of the night
Welcome! Come join me
I’m sitting enjoying the silence
I’ve had a long day
A few moments I lost it
Come sit. I value your patience
Let’s talk about woes
Ideas and theology
Have you seen Martha’s new kitten?
Take a deep breathe
Chat philosophy
I’ve seen Toby’s quite smitten
I’ve enjoyed tonight
Thank you again
For joining in this moment
See you soon
Let’s meet at the moon
Don’t forget to bring your helmet -
How lucky we are to be loved
By a mother who has such strength
She watches us destroy her body
Yet still bears fruit for our fists to clench
She brings the water to our mouths
And doesn’t flinch when we spit
We kill all her children
Yet she holds our fire delicately lit
How she encourages us to grow
Leading by example
Displaying her grace
As we continue to trample
Her guidance ignored
As our greedy hands grow
Mother will soon punish us
Do you want it to be so? -
It’s cold out mummy
Can we go inside?
Not right now hunny
We can’t ruin the surprise
It’s getting dark mummy
How long do we wait?
Not long hunny
This surprise is gonna be great!
I’m really hungry mummy
Can we go soon?
We’ll go soon hunny
Look up at the moon
I’m getting tired mummy
Can I go to bed?
Not yet hunny
Curl up under this bush instead
We’re still here mummy
Did we stay all night?
Yes we did hunny
Everything will be alright -
There was a little Strawberry
Hanging on a bush
It was so red and juicy
Then one day whooosh
A giant hand came and grabbed her
And placed her in a cave
Then crushed her little body
With her cousin Dave -
The swallow came and rest upon the gravestone
It closed its eyes and felt the captain there
An old friend looking out over the landscape
Smoking his pipe and perfuming the air
It missed the warmth it felt seeing the ship at sea
It wondered if the captain would ever sail again
Or would he be a swallow too or even a shark
An eternity on land, a hell it could not construe
Why did they put you in the ground?
Surely you were better suited at sea?
How did they not know your wishes?
Your daughter cries aimlessly
For hours she sits beside you and waffles
On about abandonment and grief
Her mother never loved and what happened
Was a child growing up with no relief
She never understood why you left them
Her mother never told her the truth
So in death she doth grab you and hold you close
Making up for the time absent in her life
She tells tales of watching the waves roar
Sunsets while flights of swallows dance
Meandering the rocks and the cliff edge
Hoping to see a fair captain in the distance
I watched her grow on the pebbles
Feeling her way across the shore
Launching her message in a bottle
And now kneeling beside you on the floor
The swallow fluttered above the gravestone
Bid adieu to his land bound friend
Until next time Captain he signaled
And back to the sea it flew -
The rain patters on the window pane
While the dog snores at my feet
My head a little fuzzy from the gin
The whirlwind of yesterday behind me
Have I escaped alive and unscathed?
Do I live to see another day?
A lesson learnt, amendments were made
And in my heart I did the right thing
The rain patters on the window pane
The wind whirls at the trees
As I sit cosy with coffee in hand
I imagine going for a stroll
The wind on my cheeks
The birds in my ears
The mud squelching under my boots
The cold gloving my hands
The water guiding my path
The freedom to go wherever I choose
The rain patters on the window pane
I’ve already been for a walk
I’ll sit here for a moment taking life in
Grateful for this moment, serene within.
