The farmer sat at his table and cried for his invisible wife
But no one knew he was married
No one knew of this gentle life
They thought he was a single man
He shouted about how his relationship ended
He loved to frolic with his chums
And the freedom he defended
His family had no idea
They thought he was alone
He went into the other room
When he answered the phone
His wife at first she didn’t mind
Until they had their baby
And she realised no one knew of them
As he flirted with ladies daily
Suddenly she started to fade
Her skin became translucent
Her voice muted to a whisper
Her soul became distant
Until one day she disappeared
Left the farmer and their baby
Never to return again
This secret invisible lady

Push it down the sadness
Push it down the grief
Breathe that little shallower
To not rock what’s underneath
Survive another second
Hold back the tears
Breathe that little shallower
Don’t give in to the fears
Distract another minute
Recite helpful words
Breathe a little shallower
Suppress that pang of hurt
Get into the sunshine
Hug those you love
Breathe a little deeper
Let out cries above
Lessons comes in all shapes
Let it start within
Breathe a little deeper
Let healing begin -
Hope died when she was 7
She learnt there was no use in trying
Under the water she found herself
There no one could hear her crying
Hope watched the world
She saw it went on well without her
In the background she drifted
While darkness spread around her
There was no joy in waking
There was no joy in sleep
No softness from her mothers hand
No shepherd to protect the sheep
The shadows did engulf her body
Her tiny little self
The space between the light and love
Too high upon that shelf
The pedestal she could never climb
The strength she never had
The expectations far beyond her grasp
An impossible path
Hope died when she was 7
She found life too hard
The busy world with noisy cries
The world filled with pain
The bubbles stopped
Her light came down
And now just her body remains -
There was a girl with bright blue eyes
Who lived behind thick glass
Watching the world from her window
Enjoying the moments that passed
The sun shone in and warmed her core
The rain would never reach her
Protected by this transparent sheet
She was such a gentle creature
Then one day along came a boy
He reached into the glass
He took one look and held her hand
They fell in love quite fast
But the boy lived in the outside world
Not behind this pane
So each day he would return home
Leaving the girl in pain
She would sob for hours clutching her heart
Behind the glass wall that protects her
It silenced both sides very well
So sadly no one could hear her
Each day he’d come step into the glass
Share a warm embrace
Each night he’d leave end with a kiss
Delicately placed on her face
Back through the glass the boy would go
Continue on with his life
Whilst each time he left her fear would grow
Her heart riddled with strife
They started to quarrel the girl and boy
Their moments no longer gentle
Until one day they just had enough
On parting they decided to settle
Sat in her window the girl looked on
Watching the world go by
Back to his life the boy did go
Never hearing her cry -
There’s a family of rats
That live down the road
They live on the water
On a cluttered boat
I visit them sometimes
Give them some food
Amuse the mother
Play with her brood
I feel so much better, slumming with the rats
It keeps be grounded, while I saunt the fat cats
The rich ladies in their white houses
Their clean space without mouses
Slumming with the rats
Playing some guitar
Drinking some wine
Laughing haha
Sometimes they come a little too close
Forgetting they’re rats
And I’m the noble host
So shoo them I must
Put them back in place
For a rat has no place within my space -
She watched the little donkey
Looking at the egg
He didn’t understand how to boil it
She gave him the pan
And a simple plan
But the donkey just couldn’t relay it
With a roll of her eyes
She offered to help
As dozens of eggs had been broken
With his clumsy hooves
She wanted to prove
His appendages weren’t the problem
The issue was the story he told himself
The useless victim ass
Repeating old stories
It got very boring
She thought he’d never pass the class
Children came and went
But the little donkey stayed put
Focused on this oval mystery
How can something hard
Be runny inside
His brain delved into history
“Which came first the chicken or the egg?“
She looked at him in dispair
“We’re just boiling an egg!
For the love of a Greggs!
Can you get your head in gear?“
The donkey bowed his head
A tear hit the floor
She really did feel awful
Maybe she didn’t have the patience
To teach this delinquent
The tears started to pour
She left the room
Left the donkey inside
And went into the garden
Breathed the fresh air
As a fly went past her hair
Suddenly she noticed her face had hardened
She wondered how long she had been frowning like that
Forehead furrowed and stern
She closed her eyes
Let out a huge sigh
Ready with her self back in alignment
She packed all her tools
Walked out of the school
And let someone else deal with that donkeys assigment. -
I feel a little torn
It’s making me forlorn
Keeping my words away from you
In fear I’ve overdrawn
We need our balance and space
That’s something I can’t deny
But I’m struggling with the ratio
When I want you by my side
Maybe I need to spread my wings
Sit in someone’s nest
Give each other the distance we crave
Rest my beak on another chest
But I don’t want to nest hop right now
I am finding it hard to force it
My heart longs for the swallow at sea
And I refuse to cage his movement
50 days is killing me
The countdown even worse
I’m not sure how sustainable
Love is on an empty purse
We have huge priorities
Big dreams to fly the world
Yet here I am pining
Wishing in his wings I was curled
There needs to be a solution
Or this bird will simply perish
Or maybe I’m just too impatient
And this need I must nourish
Maybe I’m just impatient
Bored of counting days
It’s not enough to imagine you
In want you in my face
Bleugh! Distraction! Focus!
Focus feathers focus!
Keep my eyes on my own ball
Remember my own path
Don’t let love throw me off
Else I’ll feel heavens wrath -
I’m still learning to unlearn
My hearts too full
I feel a burn
I wander between extremes of sorts
Belonging and abandonment
Torn between the pull and fall
The heart that contemplates it all
The woman that has seen the world
For the man who completes the mould
It’s hard to understand the pain
That doesn’t exist
Is this all in vain?
She closes her eyes and sees his heart
Lovingly torn apart
She knows not what to do
She knows her eyes long for you
The juxtaposed ideas wane
The tears subside and begin to drain
The sun returns and casts her glare
The love warms they return to share
The inner child they promised to hold
The love they defrost from the cold
I do not know where it goes
I fear for the love I show
If it’s too much I guess I lose
For honesty is all I chose
Poetry be my hidden centre
Brave begins this lyrical banter
Shakespeare gave Juliet her centre
A muse to devote her complicated heart
Her loving words, her form of art
