Who are we?
Are we people by fixed values
With a set moral standing?
Do we know who we are
In the face of president or peasant?
Will we live by the same standard
Whether the world is watching or not?
For some of us the answer is a clear yes
For some it’s a laughable no
But there are the group in between
Who would say yes to our face
And no behind their eyes
Those who only wash their hands
When someone else is in the bathroom
Those who empty their pockets
In the silent alleyway
Those who see a fallen wallet and will
Look to see how much money there is
Before they consider handing it in
With or without the cash
Those who do not think about comments
Those who get carried away with rats
Feasting in the moment on the flesh
Not realising they’re feasting on themselves
What a party!
Who are WE?
Are WE people by fixed values
With a set moral standing?
Do WE know who WE are
In the face of president or peasant?
Will WE live by the same standard
Whether the world is watching or not?
There is no we
There is simply a set of individuals
We are he, she, you & I
Each individual being responsible
Who are you?

Cross the road! Don’t cross the road!
Cross the road! Wait!
Eagle eyed pennies rolling toward the drain plate.
Get your coat! Give me your coat!
Get your coat! Leave!
The dance of the peacocks leave nothing up their sleeve.
Save yourself! Save me!
Save yourself! Go!
Military knocking down the doors of resisting free folk!
Go fuck yourself! Fuck me!
Fuck yourself! Die!
Nothing left to lose staring into the soldiers eyes.
How does it end? I don’t know!
How does it end? Cry!
Live your truth, burn it bright
Arms out to the sky. -
It’s cold out mummy
Can we go inside?
Not right now hunny
We can’t ruin the surprise
It’s getting dark mummy
How long do we wait?
Not long hunny
This surprise is gonna be great!
I’m really hungry mummy
Can we go soon?
We’ll go soon hunny
Look up at the moon
I’m getting tired mummy
Can I go to bed?
Not yet hunny
Curl up under this bush instead
We’re still here mummy
Did we stay all night?
Yes we did hunny
Everything will be alright -
Oh Monday! Why do you arrive
with such a heavy head and slow drive?
I’ve got work to do, yet feel forlorn
The cloud arrived Sunday
I wish it’d be gone
Slow and steady, at least I’m moving
Give me a coffee to get me grooving
It’s not so bad, I’ve got it good
I just need a little pick me up
Tarry black treasure, liquid gold
Warm my hands, thaw this hold
Wipe away that cloud
Bring out the sun, that burns in me
This day’s gonna be fun!
Ok let rock it! -
There was a little Strawberry
Hanging on a bush
It was so red and juicy
Then one day whooosh
A giant hand came and grabbed her
And placed her in a cave
Then crushed her little body
With her cousin Dave -
The swallow came and rest upon the gravestone
It closed its eyes and felt the captain there
An old friend looking out over the landscape
Smoking his pipe and perfuming the air
It missed the warmth it felt seeing the ship at sea
It wondered if the captain would ever sail again
Or would he be a swallow too or even a shark
An eternity on land, a hell it could not construe
Why did they put you in the ground?
Surely you were better suited at sea?
How did they not know your wishes?
Your daughter cries aimlessly
For hours she sits beside you and waffles
On about abandonment and grief
Her mother never loved and what happened
Was a child growing up with no relief
She never understood why you left them
Her mother never told her the truth
So in death she doth grab you and hold you close
Making up for the time absent in her life
She tells tales of watching the waves roar
Sunsets while flights of swallows dance
Meandering the rocks and the cliff edge
Hoping to see a fair captain in the distance
I watched her grow on the pebbles
Feeling her way across the shore
Launching her message in a bottle
And now kneeling beside you on the floor
The swallow fluttered above the gravestone
Bid adieu to his land bound friend
Until next time Captain he signaled
And back to the sea it flew -
There’s a penguin on my head
How’d it get there?
It’s telling me to take it for a ride
I’ve ask him politely
To remove himself but spritely
He pulls my hair and tells me then to stride
I’m not your horse penguin!
I don’t think so!
I’m getting quite frustrated at this game
The penguin looks right at me
His eyes fixed entrap me
And in a trance I canter across the plane -
Comfort is a thousand miles from what we’re meant to be
Teeter on the edge of severe anxiety
Fingertips along the edge of the cliff face
Reminding us of the space in which we need to pace
Only when we face ourselves can we truly know
Who we are and the way we need to truly grow
Interactions will be paper thin until we find
The depth beyond our own ego, the pulp within our mind
And trust when we sort ourselves,
love with all our heart
Love will come in all the ways
Fulfill our soul, love smart. -
Butter! Butter! Where are you?
You’re not in the fridge.
Are you hiding from me?
A just need a smidge.
For my crumpets. Only two
Why don’t you come hither?
I’ll let you go before you know
I just need a slither
Ah there you are. On the side
How did you escape?!
I’ve got my knife. I’ll hold your life
On this nice warm plate
Actually I changed my mind
Crumpets can’t be dry
I’m going to dolop you on them
I’m afraid you’ll have to dieI’m loving memory of M.Y Butter. Use by date April 2023. Gone before his time. Gone, but never forgotten. RIP
